What personal data is collected when you use adammills.uk, why, and the rights you have over it. Last updated 24 September 2026.
Who I am
This is the personal website of Adam Mills, an IT and AI consultant. I am the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can contact me about privacy by email at adam@adammills.uk or by phone on +44 (0)7868 158868.
What I collect and why
When you contact me. If you email or phone me, I keep your name, contact details and the content of your message so that I can respond and, where relevant, discuss working together. The lawful basis is my legitimate interest in responding to enquiries and, where a contract follows, performance of that contract.
When you browse the site. The hosting provider records standard server logs, including your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of the request. These logs are used for security and to keep the site running reliably, on the basis of legitimate interests.
Analytics, only if you accept. I use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and how visitors reach the site. It is switched off until you choose Accept analytics on the cookie banner. If you accept, Google Analytics sets the cookies listed below and processes your IP address (truncated by Google before storage) and device and browser information. Google may transfer this data outside the UK and EEA under its standard contractual clauses. The lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time using the link in the footer of every page; withdrawing consent stops further collection and removes the Google cookies from your browser. If you reject, or make no choice, the Google Analytics library is never loaded and no analytics data is collected.
Cookies
The site has no accounts, comments or logins, so it sets no cookies for those. The only cookies are the ones in the table below. The first records your cookie choice and is strictly necessary for that purpose, so it does not need consent. The Google Analytics cookies are optional and are only set if you accept them on the banner.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|
am_consent | adammills.uk | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so you are not asked again on every page. | 180 days |
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguishes one visitor from another with a random identifier. | 2 years |
_ga_* | Google Analytics | Keeps track of the current visit (session) and its page views. | 2 years |
You can change your choice at any time with the link in the footer. If your browser sends the Global Privacy Control signal I treat it as a rejection and do not show the banner. Most browsers also let you block or delete cookies; doing so will not stop the site working.
Embedded content from other websites
Some articles embed video hosted on Cloudflare Stream. When such content loads, the third party may collect data about you, set its own cookies and monitor your interaction with the embed as if you had visited its site directly. Please refer to the Cloudflare privacy policy for details.
Who I share data with
I do not sell personal data. I share it only with the service providers needed to run the site and my work, such as the hosting provider, email provider and Google Analytics, each acting under contract, or where the law requires it.
How long I keep it
Enquiry correspondence is kept for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry and any resulting engagement, and then for up to six years to meet legal and accounting obligations. Server logs are retained for a short rolling period by the hosting provider. Google Analytics data is retained for the period configured in the account, currently 14 months.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, and under the EU GDPR if you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access the personal data held about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability where applicable. Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time without affecting what was done before. To exercise any of these rights, email adam@adammills.uk. If you are unhappy with how your data is handled you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or, if you are in the EEA, to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
I will update this page if my practices change. The date at the top of the policy shows when it was last revised.
